The First Rights of Nature Case Goes to Tribal Court –The Case for Manoomin

In December 2021, we held a webinar on the Rights of Manoomin law and enforcement case, featuring White Earth tribal attorney Frank Bibeau, and senior legal counsel for the Center for Democratic and Environmental Rights (CDER), Thomas Linzey. The webinar was co-sponsored by Honor the Earth, the Native Organizers Alliance, and Menīkānaehkem. This presentation was a “deep dive” workshop on the White Earth Band of Ojibwe's case to enforce the rights of manoomin (wild rice), Manoomin v. Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. For more information on the rights of nature work being done in the tribal courts, visit the Rights of Manoomin page here.
