NPR: Rights for the rivers: Groups fight for recognition of natural entities' legal rights

CDER’s Senior Legal Counsel, Thomas Linzey, was featured in a recent episode of NPR’s All Things Considered sharing the reasoning for the rights of nature and the focus on a more indigenous perspective on the law. He explained:

“It may be a radical concept, or it was 20 years ago, but we're rapidly coming to a place where, without this kind of new system of environmental law - that we're all kind of done.”

There's a growing movement that calls for granting legal rights to natural entities like forests and rivers. Juanpablo Ramirez-Franco explores the growing calls from indigenous groups to extend this right to Mississippi lakes and rivers.
